Buffy Sainte-Marie/Wanda Koop/Ian Wallace

On May 5th 2007, Buffy Sainte-Marie received an Honorary Doctorate from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. It was an amazing occasion and during her speech Buffy sang "Up Where We Belong" which captivated an audience of graduating students and their families as well as the staff and faculty. Wanda Koop, one of Canada's greatest artists also received an Honorary Doctorate as did Ian Wallace who is one of the founders of the Vancouver School and an artist who has been at the centre of the creative energy that characterizes the artistic scene in British Columbia. Both Ian and Wanda gave passionate speeches about the role of art in their lives. The entire afternoon was emotional and beautiful. Here is a rare video of Buffy playing with Pete Seeger.
